Important Driving Directions: Through mid-June (when the new CONCRETE Copper Canyon Road should be re-opened at FM407), our access will still be from the north (as described on map below). However, we will likely be required to use the MIDDLE driveway for both entry and exits until our west driveway is poured and cured. For the most current updates and photos, see http://www.facebook.com/dentoncountysports?sk=wall Due to rebuilding of Copper Canyon Road,
it is CLOSED
from FM407 (Justin Road) until about the end of May 2012 - with the
exception of access to Denton County Sports Association facilities ONLY
FROM THE NORTH on Copper Canyon Road. This "Directions" page will be updated periodically throughout the Copper Canyon Road rebuilding project. Also, see paragraph at bottom of this page regarding more construction on FM407 in 2012 and 2013. Additional info. and photos sometimes posted at http://www.facebook.com/dentoncountysports?sk=wall. In all cases, be advised the various detour routes may involve pedestrian crossings and strictly enforced speed limits. Those coming from the north (Denton and Corinth) and already acclimated to accessing Copper Canyon Road from 2181/Swisher will be the least affected (at least during this phase of the project). Those coming from the north may also want to consider coming south on FM2499 then turning west on Orchid Hill (just before the long bridge at Poindexter Branch). For those coming from the south or east, the following route is suggested. Assuming beginning at the intersection of FM2499 and FM407: 1. Go north for 2.6 miles on 2499 to Orchid Hill Road (which is the first left turn after crossing the long bridge). 2. Go west for 1.6 miles on Orchid Hill (through roundabout at Chinn Chapel Road) to stop sign at Copper Canyon Road. 3. Go south for 1.8 miles on Copper Canyon Road to Winding Creek. 4. Copper Canyon Road is barricaded just south of the intersection at Winding Creek. One portion of the barricade is to be left open for "DCSA Gun Range Traffic Only". This area is marked with the red dotted line on the map above. Proceed straight south beyond the barricade on the old road for approximately 3/10 mile to our driveway. For those coming from the west, you can use the primary roads on the map above OR the directions below - although it does take you through a rather high density residential neighborhood with numerous stop signs. Assuming beginning at the intersection of FM407 and Lantana Trail: 1. Go north for 1.2 miles on Lantana Trail to Golf Club Drive (which you may want to locate on a better Google map). 2. Go east on Golf Club Drive for 0.6 mile to Conner. 3. Follow Conner for 0.2 mile to James. 4. Turn south at James for about 40 yards to Emily. 5. Turn east at Emily for about 40 yards to Copper Canyon Road. 6. Turn right at Copper Canyon Road, going south for 1.2 miles to Winding Creek 7. Copper Canyon Road is barricaded just south of the intersection at Winding Creek. One portion of the barricade is to be left open for "DCSA Gun Range Traffic Only". Per red dotting line on map above, proceed straight south beyond the barricade on the old road for approximately 3/10 mile to our driveway. Be advised that GOOGLE maps indicating DCSA's location are largely correct, although *they may not include the recent opening of new streets and intersections mentioned above. LOCATION 409 Copper Canyon Road Argyle (Mail Route in unincorporated area) 76226 5 miles west of I-35E and 1/2 mile north of FM 407 Parking lot coordinates: N 33 04.771' W 097 06.575' The good news is, after completion of this phase of the project, we will have (1) a 32' wide concrete road (without so much sharpness in the curves and more room for bicyclists), (2) our own left hand turn lane and (3) Two new 30' wide concrete access driveways. The not-so-good news is that FM407 (Justin Road) is scheduled for expansion by the State beginning in February 2012. This will include the entire section of FM407 shown on the detour map above, plus at least another mile in each direction. Therefore, at least "locals" may want to study up on the most efficient individual route to CROSS FM407 rather than encounter ongoing construction from Briarhill to Bartonville.
If you are arriving as a pre-registered student - and if the area is dry - please park on the grass facing Copper Canyon Road so that those who will not be staying as long can park as shown in the photo below.
However, if it has rained recently - or if rain is imminent - please remain on graveled areas only and angle park along as pictured above. Please do not to park directly in front of the sign or registration form boxes or directly in front of the drop box. An instructor may often drop the rope gate and ask some pre-registered students to park on one of several graveled areas inside. Open House Schedule return to main: www.dentoncountysports.com |
