SUMMARY OF DCSA FACILITIES USE AND CLASS FEES

While 2 specific types of printable registrations forms are available on this web site. DCSA does not accept electronic payments or reservations.

* REQUIRED OF ALL FIRST-TIME PARTICIPANTS

Pending class at DCSA or written proof of an approved class by a certified instructor elsewhere. DCSA facilities safety orientation checklist, membership application/liability release and class paperwork requires approx. 1 hour, typically at beginning of all classes (be on time!). Fee includes use of specific DCSA training and/or testing areas for initial use only. Orientation format for new Personal Protection Associate Members (CHL, LEO, FFDO) and for new Recreational Shooter Associate Members (NRA/101 class students or Hunter Ed. class students) varies slightly, but the required fee is the same for all first time participants:  $30 + $1.88 state tax (6.25%). See * footnote immediately below.

* Required of all "first-time" participants, whether taking a class or getting a Freedom Plan.   Exceptions: (1) Those who have completed the orientation and paid fee as a part of a class at DCSA within the past 12 months or (2) Those who have an active Freedom Plan or one that has not lapsed for more than one year (expiration date indicated on membership card).

STANDARD CLASSES

Texas Department of Public Safety Concealed Handgun License (CHL). Minimum 10 Hour Course for Original License Certification.  Pricing shown is for classes conducted 100% at DCSA. $161.88 pricing includes 50-round "practice run" and 50-round shooting test independently scheduled on a separate day after the 10-hour classroom segment. See other web site pages for details on these and "hybrid" options for beginners. Private class (1 or 2 experienced students) option: $400.00 + $31.88 each.

Typical total course length: Approx: 5 hours (including the hour in first box above) for the first 1 or 2 students.  See link on left for a more comprehensive description. NRA First Steps - Rifle or Pistol. Geared for beginning shooters, those needing a specific certificate and/or those considering purchase of a firearm. 4 students (min./max.) for pricing shown at right. Typical course length approx: 4 1/2  hours. See web page and/or call for more details.

Outdoor Life Hunter Education Home Study Course Packet.

Texas Parks and Wildlife's contract for production of the Outdoor Life packets expired and will likely eventually be replaced entirely by the "internet study" option. At the time of revision to this page (07-12-07), the packets were still available via mail order through TP&W's office. DCSA sometimes stocks the home study packets and has available at manufacturer's suggested retail price during "open house" periods only.

FREEDOM PLAN OPTIONS

In conjunction with "required reading" pages on this web site and orientation (see top box/$31.88 fee above), subsequent on-site walk-through and  paperwork requires about another one-half hour (often recommended during Open House periods). Options available to add other family members, depending on total # of "position hours" desired (rounded up to nearest hour each visit). Pricing includes Self Defense insurance for first CHL holder. See Freedom Plan pages.
