DCSA Open House Schedule Partial Open House schedule is shown after photo below. Orientation schedule is at bottom of page. While DCSA maintains no specific office hours, a DCSA representative is frequently on site at very sporadic intervals (some days, nights and/or weekends at times other than those shown below). "First-time visitors" should understand that, while there may be one or more people on site, these individuals are not necessarily going to be in a position to answer questions, much less allow you to enter. Do not be offended if they ignore you and/or simply direct you to this web site. If - after completely reading the signs in the driveway - the "OPEN HOUSE" sign (in photo below) is visible, feel free to park and walk inside. Otherwise (if sign pictured below is retracted), do not walk beyond the parking lot or black drop box near exit driveway. Coming inside during an "open house" period is the best way for prospective hunter ed. students to determine 100% current information regarding available "slots" in any scheduled class. During this same time period (typically beginning about 45 minutes before scheduled hunter ed. class start times), the "Safeguarding Our Heritage" videotape is shown for any hunter ed. home study student who have not already been able to see it at home. For other types of shooters, open house periods are no-cost times to check out the facilities, ask questions that are not answered in this web site, get scheduled in a class, etc. * Unlike many public ranges, "drop in" shooting is not available to those who have not completed DCSA's initial and "Freedom Plan" checklist/orientations. Once completed, however, "Freedom Plan" Associates can shoot on a "drop in" basis or via e-mail reservation. See "Freedom Plan" web page(s) for details.
Scheduled "No Cost" Open House Periods: Note: Please arrive early enough to read signs (and possibly complete registration form) before "open house" periods. (The registration forms in the boxes are very similar to registration forms on this web site; you only need to use one.
Individuals can request a brief "private open house" at times other than the "no charge" times shown above for a minimum appointment fee of $40. Please direct e-mail requests for such appointments to dcsa1996@yahoo.com and include at least the day(s)/time(s) that would fit best for you and as many phone numbers as practical. When an appointment is scheduled specifically for a completion of DCSA's initial range safety orientation (approx, 1 hour / $31.88) and to purchase a Freedom Plan ("walk through" and paperwork - takes about another 15 minutes), the minimum $40 or $60/hr. appointment fee will be waived. Thereafter, "Freedom Plan" shooter members can come and go to practice independently for up to one year. (See "Freedom Plan" Web Pages) The $40 appointment fee is also waived for those who make special arrangements to pick up materials and make the deposit for DCSA's "CHL Home Study" course or who make the 50% deposit on a private CHL or First Steps or "101" course. * Individuals who have already completed a recognized class (see "General Info." page) at DCSA or elsewhere can also make a mutually convenient appointments with Range Officer for an initial DCSA orientation and subsequent (private or supervised) practice. Range Officer may arrange to (1) unlock the building, (2) conduct the mandatory initial orientation ($31.88 per student) and remain on site for $60 per hour thereafter, offering assistance (such as malfunction clearances) and/or training as desired - or allowing the individual(s) to practice independently. This option is typically applicable for some individuals who, for whatever reasons, want a Range Officer on site while they shoot. Such shooters, after one or several hourly sessions, may subsequently develop a "comfortable confidence" and thereafter opt for a less expensive "Freedom Plan" practice option. ORIENTATIONS The first hour of *most classes at DCSA consists of a review of NRA's top ten rules of shooting safety and some of the proper firearms and ammunition terminology. Individuals who have had an approved class elsewhere and are seeking a Freedom Plan are encouraged to consider one of the following times. While such individuals can frequently be accommodated as "walk ons", a deposit of $31.88 per person is recommended to be assured of having a seat. Scheduled start time for (approx. 1-hour) orientations: Monday, August 30 - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 31 - 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5 - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 - 6:00 p.m. Sat.
